Transport Clerk

An opportunity has arisen for a full time Transport Clerk to join our Halifax Team.  The candidate will initially be responsible for assisting with transport operations with a view to developing their skills and experience to take responsibility and manage these functions.  The successful candidate must be customer focused, have an attention to detail, be commercially astute and be suitable to work on a personal level with the client base.

Working as part of the Operations Team, this appointment will report directly to the Operations Team Manager. The role will include fielding incoming calls and emails from Customers, Drivers and Sub-contractors, assisting and dealing with the planning & scheduling of road transport operations and planning and assisting with the movement of Abnormal Indivisible Loads (AILs).  This will include obtaining required permits, managing operations on a cost effective basis, general Transport Office Clerk duties, cargo inspections and related tasks.

Applicants will possess a minimum O level standard education (maths and English essential), but an A Level or equivalent would be preferred.  Experience in a logistics environment would be favourable but is not essential as is a full clean driving license.  The appointee will be able to demonstrate their ability to complete tasks with attention to detail, have a good understanding and geographic knowledge of UK and Europe and the ability to record and report progress & development.  A high level of computer skill and competency is essential and individuals must be effective communicators at all levels to build relationships with customers and colleagues as well as having a keen desire to learn in order to develop in the role.

The role is based at our Halifax depot but travel may be required between other depots or clients in order to oversee or manage some percentage of the task. Industry approved further education will be provided for the correct candidate. The appointment will enjoy a varied work load and will have opportunity to help grow and develop the Transport division, contributing to the Company’s development and their own prospects for promotion.
