All sea carriers adopt different standards and procedures, but in general terms here are the following elements considered by Collett Marine when we calculate freight & ancillary charges for the import & export of international cargo.

  • Collection from exporter/shipper
  • Terminal handling cost to load, to consolidation or international carrying mode
  • Export/European Union documentation
  • Insurance of goods while in transit
  • International freight
  • Bunker Adjustment Factor (BAF)
  • Currency Adjustment Factor (CAF)
  • Special surcharges such as canal charges etc.
  • Terminal handling/unloading at destination
  • Load On, Load Off charges (Lo-Lo) when merchant carriage is used
  • Import/European Union documentation
  • Duty and taxes – where applicable
  • Delivery to importer/receiver of cargo
  • Demurrage or rent charges for delays involved, paid by who causes the delay
  • VAT on charges incurred on intra-European Union movements

All of the above will be explained by your dedicated Shipping Manager at point of order.
