TRANSPORT OPERATIONS ASSISTANT / PERMIT CLERK

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are looking to appoint a Transport Operations Assistant / Permit Clerk to support the planning and coordination of our road transport operations.
The ideal candidate will be:
- Customer-focused with strong communication skills
- Organised and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage day-to-day planning effectively
- Collaborative, able to work with various internal teams to resolve issues and deliver solutions
- Commercially aware, with an understanding of operational constraints and customer expectations
- Flexible and eager to develop within the company
Responsibilities
- Field incoming calls and emails from customers, drivers, and subcontractors.
- Assist with the planning and scheduling of the company’s road transport operations, ensuring timely and professional responses to communications from National Highways, structure owners, councils, etc.
- Co-ordinate and communicate with the existing specialist route planner, project managers and engineers to resolve issues and establish practical solutions.
- Plan and assist with the movement of Abnormal Indivisible Loads (AILs).
Qualifications / Experience
- Minimum of A-levels or equivalent.
- Ideally 2+ years’ experience in a logistics, road haulage or freight forwarding industry, ideally in the permit process.
- Full, clean UK driving licence preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to complete necessary documentation.
- Commercial awareness and confidence working directly with clients.

- High level of attention to detail.
- Good geographical knowledge of the UK and Europe.
- Ability to record and report progress on assigned tasks.
- Competent computer skills.
- Effective communicator at all levels.
- Able to build strong working relationships with colleagues and clients.
- Accurate and thorough in completing tasks.
Location & Conditions
- Location: Based at our Halifax depot, with travel to other depots or client sites as required.
- Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00.
- Holidays: 28 days per year (including bank holidays), with an option to purchase up to five additional days.
