NEW 350 TONNE GREINER GIRDER BRIDGE SYSTEM DEPLOYED ON LONG-TERM CONTRACT

Collett 350T Greiner modular girder bridge in 30-axle configuration deployed for GE heavy transformer transport

THE NEW 350 TONNE CAPACITY GREINER MODULAR SIDE GIRDER BRIDGE SYSTEM (SGB) HAS NOW BEEN SUCCESSFULLY DEPLOYED ON A LONG-TERM CONTRACT WITH GE

The deployment marks a key milestone in our ongoing investment in innovative, engineered heavy transport solutions.

The GE contract was first mobilised in June 2025, with Collett delivering large power transformers from GE’s Stafford facility to Ellesmere Port. To meet the growing demands of this project, we invested in the new 350 Tonne Greiner girder bridge.

The new girder bridge, built in a 30-axle configuration, was first deployed for GE in September 2025. Over the course of the contract, 35 girder frame loads will be moved.

This latest addition completes our range of girder bridge systems, enhancing fleet capacity and providing a tailored solution to satisfy specific client requirements. The investment enables us to deliver greater efficiency and load optimisation, with reduced axle loading and improved ground pressure distribution for heavy transformer moves.

Manufactured by Greiner Heavy Engineering, the bridge features a fully modular structure with interchangeable beams, supporting 2 x 8 to 2 x 18 axle configurations. Its adjustable side decks and versatile loading methods ensure flexibility and compatibility across manufacturers.

The Goldhofer THP/SL-L modular axles, used in conjunction with the Greiner bridge, are also a recent addition to Collett fleet. These axles are engineered for maximum flexibility, offering a 26.1 Tonne axle load capacity with a deadweight of just 2.77 Tonne per line.

David Collett, Managing Director at Collett & Sons, commented:

“This investment in the new 350 Tonne Greiner girder bridge completes the jigsaw in terms of our fleet capacity. It was introduced specifically to satisfy a client requirement and further strengthen our engineered heavy transport capabilities. Combined with our new Goldhofer axles, it’s great to see the system performing exactly as intended on its first deployment.”

The successful deployment of the 350 Tonne Greiner girder bridge marks another major step in Collett’s continuous development of specialist heavy transport equipment, cementing its position as a leader in specialist engineering-led logistics across the UK.
