Wind Turbine Steersman / Trailer Mate
Location: Halifax, Goole & Grangemouth
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are seeking a motivated and flexible Wind Turbine Steersman / Trailer Mate to join our Renewables Team. This is a permanent, full-time role involving manual work, semi-skilled equipment operation, and the use of specialist trailers within our depot yards, dockside and construction sites.
SCOPE & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate, drive, load, offload and mobilise all types of hydraulic trailers.
- Steer and operate specialist trailers transporting wind turbine components.
- Assist with trailer fleet configuration and complete daily plant equipment checks.
- Undertake escorting duties as required.
- Use equipment such as electric generators, hoses, battery chargers, compressors, power pumps, lifting equipment, forklift trucks and miscellaneous hand tools.
- Perform installation, rigging and general maintenance tasks.
- Maintain accurate records, follow instructions and ensure compliance with operational standards.
- Carry out any other duties as required to ensure the effective management of the business.
Essential Criteria
- Excellent literacy and numeracy skills.

- Professional, reliable and able to represent the company positively in front of the client base.
- A strong team player who can also take responsibility for individual work.
- Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions.
- Ability to maintain simple records.
- Previous experience in logistics, road haulage, or heavy lifting.
- Previous experience working with hydraulic and/or mechanical equipment for abnormal/heavy haulage.
- Ability to learn storekeeping and procedures applicable to storage yard operations at depots and dockside storage.
- This is a physically demanding job at times; therefore, a good level of personal fitness, strength and agility is required.
- Willing and able to work away from base at short notice, sometimes for extended periods and cope with unconventional working patterns.
- Flexible to work evenings, weekends, overtime and overnight stays as required.
Desirable Criteria
- Full, clean driving licence.
- Forklift truck/telehandler licence preferred (training can be provided).
- Mechanical trade qualifications.
- Previous experience working with hydraulic and/or mechanical equipment, specifically in the wind turbine transportation sector, would be a great advantage.
Location & Conditions
- The role is based primarily at our Halifax, Goole or Grangemouth depots, subject to locality, but flexibility and mobility are required to carry out tasks at other depots and areas of work as per business needs.
- Anticipated normal working hours are a minimum of 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00, with a one-hour unpaid break taken during the day to suit business requirements.
- Flexibility is essential, as overtime, evening and weekend working may be required by the demands of the business.
- 28 days holiday per year, including Bank Holidays.
- Company contributions to the pension scheme are offered, subject to conditions.
- Overnight subsistence costs are covered when working away from base.
